El Paso Water employees pledge $72K for United Way of El Paso County
El Paso Water employees are opening their hearts and wallets for a good cause.
Staff has pledged $72,000 of their own money to United Way of El Paso County, as part of the 2016-17 giving campaign – surpassing last year's contributions by more than $4,000.
"When we first gave our presentations asking employees to consider donating to United Way, we asked them to listen with their ears and with their hearts, and they hit it out of the ballpark," said Leticia Missirian, Utility Security and Emergency Response Coordinator and this year's campaign chair. "Those contributions will make a difference in the lives of so many people in our community."
Missirian announced the final numbers at the December PSB meeting. The planning committee included EPWater employees Angel Bustamante, Rosa Gomez, Fernie Rico and Aide Zamarron.
Of the total contributions, $3,500 was raised through an annual fishing derby organized by Ruben Rodriguez, Water Supply Manager.
"All of our nonprofits are very grateful, and we are so appreciative of El Paso Water's generosity," said Laura Gallegos, United Way's vice president of resource development.
Since 2010, employees have pledged more than $490,000 to help support various local organizations through the United Way giving campaign.
